Review of Made in Dagenham (2010) by Kevork O — 08 Oct 2010
Oddly this movie put me in mind of Brassed Off, sharing the same down to earth roots and background. The cast were impeccable, and Bob Hoskins was perfect as the traditional TU rep who actually felt for his cause.
Miranda Richardson's small but perfectly delivered role gave the film even more gravitas. Don't go in expecting a full on modern-day type comedy or you will be disappointed. The humour in this is subtle and from a simpler time, but there is plenty of drama as we see into the shared lives of the women who are battling for their right to equal pay.
Maybe not 100% historically accurate but it gives people a flavour of the era and brings home how selfish and disfunctional society today actually can be.
