Review of Made in Dagenham (2010) by John M — 03 May 2011
WHat I thought at first was oh no, another formulaic British comedy/drama. In a way, it is a bit formulaic and some of the scenes are a bit on the cheesy side, but thanks to the well chosen cast and the subject matter which is so correct on every level, this movie creates a finly balanced movie with the right tones of social history involving characters you care about, with a bit of entertainment.
What emerges is something both uplifting and emotionally engaging. You can't help but put your fist in the air and shout YES when Sally Hawkins wipes the floor with the chauvenistic neanderthals that run the country.
Like what Bob Hoskins says in the movie, they have balls! They took on Ford for goodness sake, a powerful, multinational corporation with enough power to motivate political decisions! This is real feminism.
...not those selfish, glamour obsessed stereotypes from Sex and the City 2!!
