Review of Made in Dagenham (2010) by David B — 03 Jun 2011
In 1969, women workers at Ford's factory in Dagenham go on strike demanding equal pay. Sally Hawkins plays the machinist reluctantly thrown into the spotlight as the industrial dispute escalates. This film won't win any awards for originality; British cinema churns out such films on a fairly regular basis (see Brassed Off, The Full Monty etc).
Perhaps one of the reasons for this is that it's a genre we excel at. This is predictable, yes, but hugely entertaining and in places genuinely inspiring. The cast are all spot-on and it captures the period extremely well.
