Review of Mad Max 2 (1981) by Shawn E — 30 Apr 2015
Post-apocalyptic classic that remains the standard for the genre thanks to an excellent lead performance & brilliant direction by George Miller. Gibson gives one of the performances of his career as Mad Max, continuing his excellent debut in the first film and reminds you what a great lead actor he is (he can easily play a man of few words here or an insane chatterbox like Riggs in "Lethal Weapon").
Behind the camera, Miller crafts a horrific & exciting vision of the future, making excellent use of the Outback landscape (anyone who's been there knows how desolate it is) while crafting some of the finest action scenes ever filmed (the final chase is a masterpiece).
Plus, he keeps it lean at an hour & thirty-six minutes (yet another classic film under two hours). In the post-apocalyptic genre, there is nothing better.
