Review of Mad Max 2 (1981) by Anthony I — 07 Mar 2016
Perhaps I should've seen this before I saw Fury Road. For the longest time, this was considered the best Mad Max film of the original trilogy. When people thought of Mad Max, they always thought of Road Warrior, first and foremost.
Does it hold up? Kind of. I wasn't expecting it to be so 80's, and so cheesy, but it was. Definitely co-existing in a time when most action movies were trying to be like Star Wars. Fury Road has blown apart our every perception of Mad Max, and turned it into something better, and something totally original.
The Road Warrior, by comparison, looks like a moldy old drive-in movie. It's great that many people still like these kinds of movies. I do, in my own way. But simply, Fury Road is my go-to Mad Max movie, and the others are just going to seem outdated at this point.
