Review of Mad Max (1979) by Connor D — 13 May 2015
I like this film and think it's important with respect to establishing the Mad Max character for the sequel, but on its own, Mad Max is not the strongest film. I think there are some nice nuances to the characters, the performances, and the setting, but I think there are some gaps in the narrative that make the movie feel a little off.
Viewers that don't like filling in gaps on their own wouldn't like this movie very much. The car chases and sequences are very enjoyable and the crashes are done with practical effects and have good gravity compared to the CGI of today.
All in all, I enjoy this film, but not as much as its sequel, Road Warrior.
