Review of Machuca (2004) by Jomo W — 21 Oct 2008
I love these historical pieces about places I know next to nothing about... scares me, but I suppose there's some comfort in knowing that people will always be people, wherever and whenever they are, no matter who they're killing, cheating, or betraying.
.. as told from the perspective of the children, this movie manages to maintain its impartiality despite its tense political themes. everyone got a chance to be an ashhole... while at the same time, the childrens' innocence was most noticably contrasted by the greed, ignorance and cruelty of the capitalists.
.. ironic how despite their education and upbringing, they are still rendered barbaric and primitive by self-preservation. When you watch, ask yourself "Who is the whore?". So deep.
