Review of Machuca (2004) by Luis G — 17 Jan 2011
Now this is my kind of history film. Reminiscent of Victor Erice's Franco-Era Spirit of the Beehive, Machuca focuses on the effects of war and deep political divide on young people. Using a Louis Malle-esque grayish-green palette, Andres Wood paints a heartening and real portrait of youth growing up in a muddy, chaotic world ruined by adults who are simply bigger children.
