Review of Machine Gun Preacher (2011) by Alexandru S — 08 Sep 2012
This movie tries to kill two birds with one stone. On the one hand, it is the true story of Sam Childers who found his faith in God and dedicated his life to help children in Sudan/Uganda. On the other hand, it's a Hollywood action-packed flick with explosions, emtions and shine.
Both are difficult to integrate into a single movie and this is where the deficits of the movie come from. However, I don't want to talk about them. I give this movie credit for bringing the important subject to the mass audience.
To those viewers who would have shied away from the content would it have been packed into a documentary. Gerard Butler - also the producer - is well-cast as the ambivalent character of Sam Childers. It's a good accessible movie about an important subject.
