Machine Gun Preacher takes complicated issues, and a few interesting ideas but ultimately does nothing with them beyond the obvious, and superficial. Which isn't entirely without merit, these issues have a certain amount of inherent weight to them even in the most mediocre of treatments.

But that alone is just not very interesting, or done with enough flair to make it worth recommending.
