Review of Machine Gun Preacher (2011) by Zack B — 20 Dec 2013
Incredibly powerful, Gerard Butler performs masterfully as Sam Childers, a criminal road warrior turned preacher and missionary to Sudan. The struggles of missions work are mostly realistically portrayed, particularly the effect ministry can have on one's family and home church.
Captivating drama, moments of genuine suspense, properly developed characters, and a well written script make Machine Gun Preacher a success. Some of the preaching and church scenes are a bit stereotyped, but for a secular film it does remarkably well as portraying Christians as real people with real struggles against real evil.
