Review of Machete Kills (2013) by David P — 23 Oct 2013
MACHETE: HE KNOWS THE SCORE! As the gruff trailer voice announces. And ever since I heard this in one of the fake trailers in Rodriguez's/Tarantino's Grindhouse double feature, I knew I wanted to see a Mâchéte movie. When a few years ago that dream became a reality, little did I know what luck I was in for: just before the end credits mr gruff trailerr man announces that MACHETE WILL RETURN IN MACHETE KILLS AND MACHETE KILLS AGAIN! Holy shit, there's gonna be a trilogy to this awesomeness? And here we are at part 2 in the Mâchéte trilogy. And god damn, I loved it! This round is a little less serious then the 1st one, but I think that gives it more of that Grindhouse flare that they are going for. The villains are a little more Bond like, with Mel Gibson making an amazing appearance. He actually wears a cape at one point. Awesome. This movie actually plays out a lot like an old Bond film. Machete is recruited by the American President (played by Charlie Sheen, oh sorry Carlos Esteves) to head south of the border to stop a Mexican terrorist from launching a bomb that will blow up the United States. It's so much fun. Danny Trejo doesn't even have to say anything and he is badass as Mâchéte. There is one point where they try to hang him and Mâchéte doesn't die. He just swings there by the neck and stares at the bad guys. So badass. There are a few great cameos by Cuba Gooding Jr, Antonio Bandaras and even Lady Gaga to keep an eye out for. And Rodriguez doesn't fail to please on the eye candy with many a fine babe in his cast, including the gorgeous Amber Heard, Vanessa Hudgens, Michelle Rodriguez and Alexa Vega from Spy Kids! My how she has grown. It can be a little stupid at times but remember to switch your brain off when stepping into this one, and have fun with the ride. If you are as bigger fan as I am then definitely see this in cinemas.
4/5.
