Review of Machete Kills (2013) by Ryan V — 31 Mar 2015
Machete (Danny Trejo) is called upon by the President (Charlie Sheen) to defend America from the machinations of a crazed Mexican terrorist (Demian Bechir). Along the way, Machete runs into a psychotic madame (Sofia Vergara), a precognitive arms dealer (Mel Gibson), and a shape-shifting assassin (Cuba Gooding Jr.
, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, and Walton Goggins). The first Machete film combined ridiculous stunt casting with a slew of cartoonish ultraviolence; its sequel doesn't aspire to do anything more than dish out more of the same.
This movie wasn't received with the same warmth as its predecessor, but I found it to be a solid source of cheesy exploitation fun.
