Review of Machete (2010) by Jin C — 25 Apr 2012
I love 1970's B-movies/exploitation movies etc... and to see a renewed interest in actually making movies in the style was a welcome change from the modern day mush of poor acting and direction, cloaked in millions of dollars of CGI.
Machete is just all out action. The acting is OK, the story is OK, but it's true to the genre. Would it be a throwback to a typical 1970's mexploitation if they won Oscars for this movie? Of course not - Robert Rodriguez is to be congatulated. He made an OK movie, that was entertaining for the audience. You really get on the side of Machete, the protagonist, and you just have to love Cheech Marin's character the Priest.
Hilarious, entertaining, with so much action. On par with Hobo With A Shotgun as a great "grindhouse" movie for modern audiences.
