Review of Machete (2010) by Tiberio S — 21 Oct 2012
What I appreciate about this Rodriguez franchise is that it keeps the movie theater a place to dream. More and more it's becoming a place to brainwash the young and impressionable into strong beliefs, while Machete diverts that.
What's interesting to note is that he has to work to assure the audience sees and feels a certain fakeness, one that they'll be willing to accept as more and more we hear audiences respond only to what's real and not real on a screen, as though that's the importance of being there.
It says that audiences are looking to feel an impression about a certain kind of reality, and that's why they're going to movies now. This is not why I spend my $12 to sit in a dark room with images and sounds projecting.
I just want to dream, then return to reality.
