Review of Machete (2010) by Lenny R — 11 Jul 2014
Part homage, part parody, all good (well, mostly). Stylistically, it sits somewhere between RR's El Mariachi trilogy and Planet Terror, though the quality is perhaps not as consistent as it is in those movies.
But there's plenty of cartoonish gore and gratuitous nudity to make up for it. Sure, some of the fights fall a little flat, but there's enough going on that you don't get a chance to be bored for long.
Glad to see Danny finally get a proper headlining role (who knew he was such a gentleman?), and it's the most fun Bobby D's been in a while -- Steve Seagal too. I'm always happy to see M. Rodriguez, and it's fun to see the Alba playing a bit of a sweary hardass for a change.
It's good to see Lindsay Lohan in anything at all, let alone something I'm willing to watch; remember when she used to be famous for her acting? Cheech is great fun as usual, and Jeff Fahey manages to flesh out his slimy caricature from the trailer to entertaining effect.
Don Johnson is fine. Nice to see how they worked all the bits of the trailer in.
