Review of MacGruber (2010) by Kyle J — 11 Mar 2011
Lowbrow finds a new home here. I'll be honest, chances are you'll hate it. I mean it's unbelievably stupid, and needlessly crass. I was surprised because nothing in the sketch series indicated Macgruber was going to be such a dick but there you have it.
All that said, it follows in a grand line of SNL movies. It's funny some of the time, but that's all it wants to be. It doesn't ground itself in anyway and though some of it is really hilarious it's so relentlessly stupid that you'll be sick of the endless dick jokes and 80s soft rock music by about the halfway mark. Although the double sex scene that arrives at about this point made me laugh so uncomfortably I thought I was going to split.
Chances are reviews of this are unneccesary, if you're thinking of watching it, you probably know what you're getting into and you'll probably watch it no matter what. Try not to pay for it, or rent it at best. No one will be losing out from not having MacGruber in their Blu-ray library.
