Review of Macbeth (2015) by Doug K — 03 Nov 2015
A cinematic modern Shakespeare unfortunately compromises the very essence of shakespeare; text. Even if Fassbaender and Cotillard are both incredible, the 'whispered' acting can only sustain so long before it wears out its welcome and shows blatantly the need for theatre acting and actors.
The cinematography, style and direction are not to blame for the average representation of this tragedy, it falls onto the inherent nature of Shakespeare and its necessity for the feast of text to shine with full use of intonation and declamation.
