Review of Macbeth (2015) by Lydia H — 29 Feb 2016
I can't think of more sensually watchable people than Michael Fassbender or Marion Cotillard, and the broodingly mysterious camera work was compelling, but the director's attempt to internalize this jacobean play into a naturalistic meditation on just what exactly? left me yawning.
In many places, rather than illuminate or bring life to the language, the director seemed to be ignoring it. I'm a teacher always on the lookout for resources to help students connect with Shakespeare, and this is not on my list.
