What's worse: murder by a psychopath or burglary by a willing criminal? This question is a the heart of Fritz Lang's "M," a great psychological thriller from early German sound cinema.

The obvious performance by Peter Lorre should be noted, but the film's allusions to the oncoming worldly threat of capitalistic democracies vs. fascism/socialism is really great. The film also wonderfully questions whether the newly theorized psychoanalytical approach to the mind can function in a society.

Society in "M" is really grounded in justice and who has the power to dictate it. I really loved this film despite it's slow beginning, but everything is set up so perfectly and the ending is so satisfying that overall, the film is awesome.

The visuals and audio work really well together and despite being 78 years old, still thrills unlike any other. This is a masterwork.
