Review of M (1931) by Michael A — 23 May 2009
M is the father of all noir, thriller, polar, mystery, man-hunt films (it is actually a combination of all these "genres"), one of the first of its kind and often imitated but rarely matched.
With a great story, perfect noirish cinematography, Peter Lorre's performance-of-a-lifetime as the pathetic child murderer Hans Beckert, this is a very suspenseful, endlessly rewatchable masterpiece.
