Review of M (1931) by Kyle V — 15 Aug 2009
Fritz Lang makes the transition into the "talkies" quite well with "M". With Fritz Lang, he decides to use his new technology of sound to benefit the overall atmosphere and the mood with the ambient noise of his film's world. what happens is the movie benefits greatly from it, while also at times, being handicapped. I think there are several moments where I don't understand what he was doing. there are several scenes where he cuts out the sound altogether and, in my opinion, there is no benefit to it. although, this could just be the deleted scenes that were added to the Criterion Collection version so I really don't know.
What was really the thrilling part of the film was Fritz Lang's camerawork. He did some revolutionary and beautiful work on the camera, with setting up the shots and the cinematography.
