Review of M (1931) by Chris D — 12 Oct 2010
A perfect film, from top to bottom. The acting is excellent and really keeps you interested even in long stretches of dialog. The cinematography is incredible, especially considering how bulky video equipment was in the early days of sound pictures.
The monologue by Lorre at the end is one of the finest performances I've seen in a long time, and even I started to have doubts about whether this man deserved to live, but I still think the kangaroo court had it right to wish his death: if he was sane enough to know what he was doing was wrong, he should have turned himself in long ago.
The ending doesn't satisfy anyone's blood-lust, but I think it leaves the audience with the most important point of the film: keep an eye on your children.
