Review of M (1931) by Bryce I — 12 Mar 2011
How a film like this was made in 1931 is beyond me. It is apparant that even in the thirties, other nationalities were fearless in their film-making, compared to the Brits and Americans. Even pre-Hays Code English language films could not match the sinister appeal of this ahead-of-the-times masterpiece. An unforgettable, fast paced, deep and haunting thriller.
On another note, the UK age certificate for M is only a PG, yet The Mummy (1933) gets a 15? A film about a child murder is in no way suitable for 'parental guidence'. Sort it out, BBFC.
