Review of Lymelife (2008) by Doris R — 03 Jun 2009
Despite quite an impressive cast this movie is rather predictable, confused - not necessarily confusing - and at times even obvious. There are also scenes in there that are very graphic indeed and very unnecessarily so - particularly on the prolonged level that Derick Martini seems to favourite.
It's a shame really as it could probably have been quite an interesting drama about a couple of extremely disfunctional families (the usual doesn't apply here on any level!) and the Culkin brothers were fairly convincing, even compared to the likes of Timothy Hutton and Jill Hennessy. Shame about the directing and writing in general - although, once the story sort of came together towards the end, things started to make a little sense at least when at first all I wanted to do was walk out of the theatre. One more mortal mistake made - the very last scene. The whole movie would have been so much more effective and interesting if the common conclusion had not happened but the twist which seemed inplied had been carried through to the end.
