Review of Lymelife (2008) by Tony's F — 15 Aug 2011
Lymelife is set in the 1970's, and it is a powerful film about how two surburban families are unhappy, and how a broken marriage destroys a family that was once happy. The film is called lymelife, and that is due to (Emma Roberts) father, having lyme disease, which you get from a bite from a little bug. The disease makes you very depressesd, it causes headaches and halucinations. Tho that is only a little aspect to this movie, instead the movie is really about relationships, a marrige that is falling apart and how the family deals with it, and the situtaions that these two different families go through on a daily basis. The film is produced by (Martin Scorsese), so if you do end up watching this than you are going to expect to see alot of domestic and unsettling moments, which brings out (Alec Baldwin's) most powerful performance that I personally have ever seen from him.
Since the film focuses on two families than ofcourse something is going to happen that involves both families. (Alec Baldwin) starts having an affair with (Emma Roberts) mother, due to him well getting bored of his own wife, and she is geting bored of her husband due to him always being sick with lyme disease. The chidlren of the two families played by (Emma Roberts), and (Alec Baldwins) son, played by (Rory Culkin) who are both around 15 years old, have been best school buddies since they were very young, and as they both find out what their parents are up to it actually affects them in a big way, and makes them become very close and more than just friends.
Im not going to go over everything that happens in the film, because I dont want to give all the plot details away, tho I will just say that this movie does a very good job at focusing on what family members and friends go through in the hard times and how they get out of the hard patches. I enjoyed the entire film, I found that everyone acted very well, especially Alec Baldwin, Emma Roberts (who is beautiful) and Rory Culkin. Something happens at the end of the film that either works or it doesnt work, im still not to sure, tho either way the movie as a whole works.
