Review of Lymelife (2008) by Darcy L — 14 Oct 2009
This movie makes a valiant effort to appear all indie and sly but it winds up being an 'Ice Storm' meets 'Running With Scissors' wanna-be and doesn't match up to either film that inspired it.
This had nothing to do with the cast ( How many Culkin's does it take to make a great movie?) and Emma Roberts made it almost worth the rental. What it boiled down to was the lame writing and flimsy plot, that rehashed old ideas about dysfunctional families living in functional communities.
I mean essentially, it was about a a shy teen getting the assertive girl and something about Lyme Disease and Deer Tics. We have seen this before done much, much better i.e. 'Ice Storm'. The other sad thing was that seasoned actors like Timothy Hutton Alec Baldwin and that lady from Sex and The City were wasted playing 2-D characters with nowhere to go but down! Nice to see Jill Hennessy though, made me miss Crossing Jordan.
