Review of Lust, Caution (2007) by Ray V — 02 Jul 2008
Maybe not as resonant as 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' or 'Brokeback Mountain,' but its story is a bit more complicated. Ang Lee delivers yet another intricate and unexpected romance (if you dare to call it that), and it's tragic as always.
It's completely compelling and that's due in particular to Tang Wei's stunning performance and the always splendid Tony Leung. The much-talked about sex scenes are essential, beautifully shot and surprisingly powerful, but then again so are the scenes where characters play mahjong.
