Beautifully filmed Ang Lee film with a few explicit sex scenes in the second hour, hence the puritanical NC-17 rating. Quite long, yes, but the story of pre-Mao Chinese resistance during WWII keeps viewers interested.
Tony Leung is stoically on-form and newcomer Wei Tang, who has an eye on Hollywood, is sensational.
