Review of Lust, Caution (2007) by Adam W — 01 May 2010
Yet another fabulous Ang Lee film. His ability to capture the essence of time, place and story is almost unrivaled in my opinion - no matter if it's Middle America family issues or, in this case, a tale of betrayl and espionage in Japan-occupied China.
The cast is wonderful and powerful with the suprising addition of Joan Chen (twin peaks :D). The paralells between the story and lives of the characters and the play that brings them together adds a great sense of poetry and drama.
Having watched the uncut version, I'm not sure what has been removed but the explicit scenes find a place of importance in building tension and developing the psyche of many of the characters.
Intriguing, tense and filled with desperation this is a movie that will appeal to all your senses with some of the most beautiful shots ever crafted.
