Review of Lust, Caution (2007) by Tinouche N — 11 Aug 2008
This was a wonderfully beautiful and tragic film by Ang Lee. Similar to Brokeback Mountain, and even Crouching Tiger, it's about a love story that is not mainstream. Yet it captures your heart like a typical love story as the minutes of the film tick by. It's hard to explain this film and the impact it has on you, but you definitely feel an impact. As you watch this film, you really question who was the villain? The traitor to the People's Republic who has turned his back on his people? Or the resistance group that used this woman as a sacrificial lamb? I guess the real villain will be the 21st century Chinese Government whom banned all advertisement of Tang Wei for portraying a woman who felt compassion for the 'traitor'.
Definitely worth watching, and for Ang Lee fans, he doesn't disappoint.
