Review of Lust, Caution (2007) by Paco R — 04 Sep 2008
It took me three attempts to watch this (I fell asleep during the first 45 mins on two occasions!) but it was SO rewarding when I finally got through it all. Tony Leung and Wei Tang are AMAZING in this; Wei is luminous and beautiful in the title role, while Leung has a sense of inner power and danger bubbling under his calm persona.
The political drama is fascinating, the social subtext between the women is compelling, the period detail is impeccable - but it's the lead performances which capture the attention. Alexandre Desplat's score is fantastic, too.
