Jan Svankmajer's latest features has hit the nail on the head, still keeping a fantastic unproliterian sense of surrealism in his film, but still making it accessible to the average Joe. I saw Lunacy at the BFI 2 weeks ago with a Q&A session afterwards by the man himself, he seriously is a genuis!
