Review of Lucy (2014) by Matt L — 07 Apr 2015
This isn't the first movie that has attempted to describe what would happen if we could tap into 100% of our brain power. They typically don't use women as the lead role, however.
While Lucy leads us through the philosophical significance of our existence, director Luc Besson decides to appease the masses by having car chases and gun fights involving Korean drug dealers and the French police force.
There is an interesting microcosm of this scenario: while Lucy does what we will never be able to do (understand "everything"), humans kill each other for petty reasons such as drugs, politics, revenge, etc. In other words, maybe humans were not meant to know such things.
The ideas pose great debatable questions, but it is unfortunately wrapped up in good cop/ bad cop cliches.
