Review of Lower City (2005) by Roman E — 29 Jan 2008
While this film was visually entertaining and appealing, the biggest thing I got from it was the absurdness of the situation which I felt the director even implied. the way the conflict is really never resolved in a way reminded me of the way Deco tried to resolve the situation by telling Karinna off everytime she approached him until he eventually came looking for her himself.
The way he just tries to drop the whole thing but then ends up fighting Naldinho over her was just ridiculous. at the very end, how it just cuts out with the three in the room is basically what I wanted to happen, everything to just be dropped and you can imagine things got straightened out.
while thematically and narratively this film lacked any tact, the visually affluent and beautiful shots of brazil and it's cities and country were worth viewing.
