Review of Loving (2016) by Charles R — 07 Nov 2016
Subverting the sentimental melodrama in ways similar to Selma, Jeff Nichols' Loving is less a preachy history lesson about people fighting injustice and more a small story about two people who just love each other.
I'm typically allergic to these types of "important" stories so it's all the more impressive that Nichols is able to craft a true piece of art out of the tired and predictable genre that is the historical drama.
One of the best films of the year.
