Review of Loving (2016) by Andy F — 20 Aug 2017
The story follows Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple, whose anti-miscegenation arrest for their marriage in Virginia led to a battle in the Supreme Court and the resulting media circus. It was a case I had not heard about before and so was interested to discover more.
It's always shocking how in the not so distant past people were treated inhumanely for a crime that defies explanation now. They're interesting characters because if it wasn't for the help of others it seems they were willing to accept their fate.
Mildred pushes for the fight but even she stands by her husband's decision and leave their legal team to fight the battle for them in court. It was worth seeing but I didn't feel it had the emotional impact of other films covering events in the civil rights movement.
