Review of Loving (2016) by Kim W — 25 Mar 2017
Loving is a big story writ small. It is delicate, caring and honest. The true story of an inter racial couple in 1958 Virginia could have been overly dramatic and heavy handed. But Jeff Nichols is not that sort of director.
He is a director that favours nuance and deliberation so the that the audience is always drawn into his films with great effect. The two leads are fantastic, their performances shining a light that is just as relevant today as it was more than 50 years ago.
Apparently the attention to detail was painstaking and it shows, giving us a film that is authentic, affecting and very important.
