Review of Lovely Rita (2001) by James M — 17 Mar 2011

I saw this film in a tiny arthouse cinema in 2003 and I left with the feeling of seeing something truly explosive and daring. The story is about a schoolgirl called Rita who is clearly suffering from some unmentioned mental instability.

She has little or no emotional interactivity with anyone by choice, but seems to be searching for some sort of acceptance. However in her young mind she starts to get it all wrong by confusing love with sex and her sociapathic tendencies finally erupt into a shocking and brutal ending.
