Review of Lovely Molly (2011) by Luciano G — 14 Sep 2012
I'll start off by saying that Gretchen Lodge did a great job. She's believable and appears to be a very capable actress who deserves a great movie to showcase her talent. This is not that movie.
I tried very hard to like Lovely Molly, I really did. I wanted to like it, partially because I wanted to see Sanchez rise back to his Blair Witch heights. But the plot was never really fleshed out when it was present at all. As for scares, they weren't there. It wasn't a slow, tense, creepy affair either. The horror aspect was simply non-existent. We were also never told what exactly has been going on for the past hour and forty minutes of movie.
I suppose that how good this movie was really depends on what sort of a movie we're meant to be watching. As a horror movie, or a thriller this film fails. As a chronicle of a horribly abused woman relapsing into drug use as she faces her demons and slowly descends into madness this movie is pretty good. The film makers just needed to decide which of these two to make.
