Review of Lovelace (2013) by Eyal D — 17 Aug 2013
The one problem plaguing this earnest attempt at retelling the sordid details behind legendary porn star turned anti-porn crusader Linda Lovelace is its earnestness. Told at first in such a straightforward manner, depicting selected scenarios that led the innocent Linda Boreman to become such an iconic personality.
The film switches gears half way through to recount the 'actual' behind the scenes events that were revealed in Lovelace's best selling autobiographical ORDEAL. Truth be told, the overall impact generated is that of a generic retread of someone else's sad life but with very little substance.
It's a shame because LOVELACE looks like an understated labour of love when it should really be all about lust; the lust for glamour, power and freedom. That's one explosive expose potential that's way short of being realized in this too tamed production that unfortunately doesn't delve deep enough.
