Love Simon showcases an excellent understanding of both cinematography and its characters. despite being cliché at points, the movie uses our knowledge of movies to its advantage, creating a sense of drama and wonder.
Each character is throughly developed in separate clever and subtle ways, and they don't just have one personality trait that is their character. The only big exposition dump happens in a new and clever way, making it feel deserved.
Overall, Love, Simon is a fantastic movie.
