It is hard to believe that it took this long for a mainstream studio to produce such a relevant movie. Love, Simon is simply a coming of age story that many can relate to. It doesn't matter if you're gay or straight it is hard to be yourself when you're afraid of what the world might think of you and that theme runs through the movie.

It so happens that this movie focused on a gay character - something that is lacking in mainstream movies, and his coming out. The movies depicts the struggle he faced even when he has the perfect family and friends around him. This movie really shows the struggle a closeted gay teen feels during the period of discovery. The need to keep their secret no matter the consequences, the loneliness and the discriminatory comments that follows. It is never easy. This movie hopes to start a conversation, and I hope it does. It seems crazy to think that people will still discriminate against another over something as mundane as someone's sexuality. I also hope parents will see this movie to see just how difficult it is for their child to come out. Sometimes all they need is an open heart and a hug. A reassurance that you love them and 'you're still you'.

This movie might not depict everyone's coming out story, but the message of the story is universal. I hope everyone will watch this movie and share it. Because it is not another "teen" movie. It is a heartfelt, warm, emotional, fun film wrapped in beautiful performances that we haven't seen for a while. We have seen the blockbusters surge, the superheroes, the biopics, the serious toned movies and sprinkle within those a few good comedies but none like this. This film borrows John Hughes' vibe to create a honest movie that audiences can relate to. I cannot express how much I love this movie and how relatable it is. So bring your friends, family and fall in love with Simon. Because you'll love Simon.
