Review of Love, Simon (2018) by Cwilliamhud — 16 Mar 2018
A near-perfect film.
Pros: Everything from the casting, directing, acting, screenplay, soundtrack , and story is absolutely superb. This is the kind of movie that anyone (including straight males) can sit and enjoy. It's a feel-good, family-friendly gay teen dramedy with equal parts heart and humor. The most accurate-- and one of the first-- representations of LGBTQ+ youth.
Cons: I really can't think of any cons besides the few changes from the source material. As a lover of the book, "Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda", I can tell you that the spirit, story, and characters in the movie are exactly how I imagined them. While there are a few noticeable changes, the film adds in scenes full of emotional resonance and laughs to supplement them.
Go see this movie so Hollywood makes more of these movies in the future. Representation is key-- so get out there.
