Review of Love Liza (2002) by Brian W — 18 Dec 2007
A Philip Seymour Hoffman performance you may have missed.
The film opens with Hoffman's character who recently lost his wife to suicide. In order to deal with his grief, he develops a fetish for sniffing gas. Kathy Bates plays his mother in law.
The film is, at times, weird, fucked up, and hilarious.
It's character driven, and the acting is so good it's not like Hoffman is acting at all, but he IS the character.
Bates is also eloquent.
