Review of Love Is Strange (2014) by Smajam B — 29 Jan 2015
A lovingly-made film that nonetheless plays more like short fiction than feature-length cinema. What we get are moments, mere glimpses, of the lives of these New Yorkers and how a unique, late-in-life circumstance dislodges each from their proscribed paths.
But there's so much blank space in and between these moments, it requires we do the film's work for it. I have a sense for this film's thesis and the feeling states behind it - I just wish I'd left it with a better sense for the people at its center.
