Review of Love Is Strange (2014) by Paul K — 24 Jul 2015
This got better ratings from reviewers than audiences. Perhaps audiences were less able to accept the notion of a loving relationship between two older men. It's touching and perceptive, if a little low-key and preoccupied with middle-class values.
The main characters are an artist, a writer, a movie maker and a music teacher. All very arty and metropolitan. The gay couple prefer to live apart rather than move, temporarily, from NYC to Poughkeepsie: that's the main premise of the movie and its weakest plot point.
The human interactions are well-portrayed and both acting and plotting are well done, with some neat oblique narrative links.
