Review of Love in the Time of Cholera (2007) by Barbara G — 06 Jan 2010
The problem with filming such a large romantic historical novel shows clearly in this movie. How to reduce it to a 2 hour format without giving the feeling of excess information, and moreover, how to keep it solemn and deliver the historical point of view without becoming cheesy.
But in this case, most of all, how to show the madness in love without making it look just plain crazy.
Beautiful movie, but too slow and kind of boring. Also too intense and hard to digest at times, given the disease and death ambiance that surrounds the story.
The acting suffered enormously from not being in spanish, however Javier Bardem was beyond great during the 60 year trail of the movie (yes, a make-up miracle indeed).
The songs composed by shakira didn't blend in properly.
