Review of Love in the Time of Cholera (2007) by Katha R — 06 Feb 2011
If this is love, I choose Cholera. Boy, that was one boring film, and bless Javier Bardem, the only decent actor in this production (but couldn't exactly carry it all off by himself), with so little chemistry between him and the love of his life, Fermina, he simply came across as one dodgy stalker. Giovanna Mezzogiorno (playing the female lead, Fermina) was ghastly (who is she anyway, and more importantly, who the hell cast her for this role??) and actually managed to alienate the viewer without opening her mouth. Furthermore, her make-up was so ridiculously bad, she didn't pass as a twen nor as a 70-something year old.
This is definitely one adaptation you want to give a wide berth.
