Review of Love & Other Drugs (2010) by Kelsy M — 11 Jul 2011
I liked the story, the characters were OK but I'm not so sure about the movie!!
The display of Jamie and Maggie's relationship, to me, was extra physical and too many sex scenes were shoved in. Gyllenhaal and Hathaway do have chemistry which would have given the movie a great push if exploited better. There are almost no real conversations, and although I liked both leads, I have to say their characters were a bit of a cliché.
A very unnecessary addition, which actually was more of an intrusion, was Gyllenhaal's brother played by Josh Gad . I guess he was supposed to create some sense of humor and failed terribly. If anything, his role itself was confusing!! The movie is romantic and kind of a drama, so the crude humor he brought didn't make any sense.
Love and Other Drugs is worth a watch. Good but hardly great.
